Nervous System Reset Day 2

Breathe

Hello and welcome to day 2 of our 7 day Nervous System Reset program. Today’s practice invites you to explore following the flow of your breath.

The breath offers nourishment to the mind and body, especially during moments of stress. Deep, steady and slow breaths can help activate the parasympathetic nervous system (rest-and-restore), encouraging a relaxation response within the body. You may find that physical responses to stress (e.g. quickened heart rate, increased blood pressure, muscular tension, headaches and migraines, quick and shallow breathing, etc.) starts to ease up as you bring your attention to a slow and steady breathing pattern.

Breathwork practices support not only your physical health, but also your emotional wellbeing. Anger is an emotion that flows through us from time to time. We all experience feelings of anger at some point in our life. It is a part of the human experience. Breathwork practices allow us to release anger in a responsible way. For example, how do you feel when someone cuts you off while you’re driving? You’re likely experiencing some level of anger, especially if they put your life in danger by this action. So, you could swear, speed after them, give them the middle finger, yell, follow with the intent to confront them, OR you could BREATHE. Literally 3 slow, steady and calm cycles of breath can shift your energy, and therefore, alter your response in that situation. You can then follow it up with, “I choose to release anger. I choose to feel comforted in knowing that I am safe.” Breathwork with affirmations can help you acknowledge the emotion(s), feel the emotion(s) within your body, and then allow the emotion(s) to flow with ease (rather than get stuck or trapped).

In today’s class, you’ll have the opportunity to practice breathwork techniques that can support your physical, mental and emotional health both on and off the mat.

This practice invites you to cultivate a sweet and loving relationship with your breath.

Your precious breath can help soothe the nervous system, restoring balance to your mind and body.

Finally, your breath offers support, love, nourishment and healing.
