So who wants to play Twister? A game of twists, turns, triumphs, struggles, uncertainty, falls and laughter. A game where you quite literally become a human pretzel!
Eagle pose reminds me of Twister, as limbs are wrapping around one another in an unnatural way. There are times when I lose my balance and fall out of the posture. There are instances when I feel stiff and fail to attain the full expression of this posture. Other times, I nail this pose right away. I find it so fascinating that my experience differs in this pose each time.
In Twister, we experience roadblocks (quite literally). Other participants in the game may hinder our ability to reach a specific color. In Eagle Pose, I sometimes impede my ability to reach the full expression when my mind is scattered and/or when I neglect to warm-up my body.
Both Eagle Pose and Twister remind me of life. Life is unpredictable. It is messy. It is full of laughs and wondrous moments. It is full of twists and turns. There is no straight path. There will be obstacles that stand in our way, causing us to take a step back or to take a new path. These twists and turns that occur along our journey can be beneficial, as they consist of different life experiences and key learning moments. We will inevitably take a path that causes suffering, but there will also be paths that bring us so much joy. It can be scary to embark upon a new path; however, it could open a door to newfound opportunities. It is all a part of the journey!
“The road of life twists and turns and no two directions are ever the same. Yet our lessons come from the journey, not the destination” (Don Williams).
Great article! When trying this set of stretches, and finding some success, it also allowed me to reflect on the times I was able to make a connection to improve my strength, my mental acuity, or my emotional well being. I agree that the frustrations of the roadblocks presented by life's twister cause us to sometimes pause or take a step back from the path we are on. There are other times we find success in our endeavors and embrace how well some things fit together. I thought I would share this having recently found an insightful instructor ;) and class that helps me overcome some of the obstacles we face. Thanks for sharing these relevant ideas as your …
