You have more than likely heard the expression, “don’t rock the boat.” When we “rock the boat,” we are stirring up trouble, disrupting the normal flow and creating waves. This is said to create conflict, tension and unease. This may be useful in some situations; however, I would argue that there are times when we need to rock that boat in order to bring about much-needed change.
This could involve speaking to your manager about a more efficient way of doing a particular task. It could involve voicing your concerns to a loved one who may be struggling with an addiction. It may mean speaking up when you feel uncomfortable with a situation that you find yourself in. Challenging the status quo can create productive change. And it can feel so liberating!
